PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING YOUR EXERCISES: Exercises for Frozen Shoulder are used to target the different symptoms faced by individuals in different stages of the condition. The exercises in this section are designed for Frozen Shoulder symptoms in which pain is significant (disturbs sleep and limits movement). They are purposefully light so as not to increase symptoms. If your pain levels are low but stiffness (limited movement) is your main problem, please select the tab for stiffness dominant stage. Perform two or three of the stretches/ mobility exercises demonstrated below for 2-3 minutes, twice daily. Exercises should not be pushed past mild pain during this phase of the condition.
PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING YOUR EXERCISES: Exercises for frozen shoulder are needed to target the different problems faced at each stage of the condition. The exercises in this section are designed for Frozen Shoulder symptoms in which stiffness/ limited movement is the biggest challenge faced (and pain, especially nocturnal pain is under control). You may push the stretches in to mild to moderate discomfort. Perform one stretch/ mobility exercise from each of the playlists below for 5×30 seconds, twice daily. Progress through each playlist as your range of motion improves. Once your range of motion is near normal and your pain levels are under control you may move on to the exercise options under the advanced shoulder exercises tab.
PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING YOUR EXERCISES: These later stage exercises are designed for individuals who have pain levels under control and have regained most of their normal range of motion. Please follow the exercises on the previous tabs if your pain or stiffness are still a significant problem for you. Perform one exercise from each of the playlists below and progress through each playlist as your ability improves. For stretches/ mobility exercises perform for 5×30 seconds twice daily. Perform strength exercises with 3-4 sets x15 repetitions every other day.

Frozen shoulder (sometimes referred to as adhesive capsulitis) is a condition which causes a gradual onset of pain and progressive stiffness/ loss of shoulder movement. The cause of the pain and stiffness is an inflammation of the shoulder soft tissue capsule which under normal circumstances is flexible but when inflamed produces stiffer, tougher, scar tissue which limits the shoulder movements. A true Frozen Shoulder is not related to age related changes or trauma to the shoulder joint. The underlying cause may be not known (idiopathic) or related to metabolic problems disorders such as Diabetes or Thyroid problems. It is more common in females between the ages of 45 – 60. A typical Frozen Shoulder will go through 3 distinct stages: Stage one (pain dominant Frozen Shoulder); Stage two (stiffness dominant Frozen Shoulder); Stage three (“thawing” stage where symptoms improve).
